Approving the Budget (See Budget, at capta.org.)
Budget Sample, Forms 385. The PTA shall not assume any financial obligation in any one term of office that will be carried over into the succeeding term. The proposed budget must be presented to and voted upon by the executive board and recommended for adoption to the association. After the budget is adopted by the association, it should be followed closely in all financial transactions. For additional information on approval of budget see National PTA Annual Resources for PTAs. The budget authorizes the board of directors to spend PTA funds. Because the fiscal year ends on June 30th, if no budget has been approved, no funds of any type may be expended. As PTAs become more influential and more valuable to the total community, they are becoming true year-round organizations. If budget approval occurs in August or September, there is no authorization for the legal expenditure of funds between June 30th and that time. The budget is not, and should never be, in concrete. The budget is merely a plan expressed in financial terms. If the PTAs plans change, then the budget can be changed or amended. |
